Overcoming Excess - Creating Success By Letting Go

Updated: Mar 19, 2019

As I am finishing up an amazing 3-week Full Body Cleanse program, I have been returning to the understanding of how key it is to let go for new energy to be activated.  So often we focus on how to improve our life, our health, and our well being, yet we miss one of the most crucial components to achieving improvement. We can get caught up on the concept of building and accumulating and how we can add more of something in hopes to make something better. Many of us go out and buy all kinds of self-help books, take classes, and fill our bodies with all kinds of superfoods, supplements, and health-enhancing herbs. Yet quite often these things fall short because what we actually need is to simplify, detox, cleanse, and just learn to let go.

More is not always best

In Western culture, we are taught to accumulate. We are led to believe that happiness comes by having more. Many people follow this teaching with as much energy as they can muster. We see the evidence of this in the striving for more things, more money, more prestige, more popularity, and so on. Although we also see it in the ever-expanding size of humans, and their accumulation of excess weight and illnesses, there are a number of people who are taking on this trait of accumulation when it comes to their health goals as well. There is a booming industry of health products. Many people are consistently seeking ways to be more healthy, more fit, have more energy, and to increase whatever it is they want to be looking or feeling more of. Sales of superfoods and nutritional supplements that promise to boost your health, energy, longevity, immunity, youthfulness, muscle growth, and more, are top picks for people who are striving to be better versions of themselves. It is a trend that relies on the teaching that more is better and that what we need lies outside of ourselves and not within.

The Power of Detoxification

Although I agree that there are some awesome products with potential for improving health and that sometimes we really do need to add something to our health regime to reach higher levels of well being, I also know that we can catalyze our health and longevity, and actually need less added to our personal care programs if we incorporate techniques for cleaning out and letting go. When we do something like a Cleanse and Detox program we are clearing the way for new energies to flow.

The truth is we live in a world of excess. There is an excess of pollution, noise, stress, toxins, and other energies that can accumulate and even clog our energetic pathways. Lowered immunity, feeling drained, bloating, weight gain, headaches, body pains, allergies, constipation, hormonal imbalances, disease – all of these things can be manifestations that reveal a need for the bodies elimination systems to be flushed out and cleansed.

Our bodies are designed to assimilate and utilize nutrients from food and hydration from water, and they are also designed to eliminate the waste from both food and water, as well as to process and eliminate various chemicals, pollutants, and toxins that make their way into us via food, air, water, drugs, and so on. If we don’t make time and devote effort to supporting our eliminatory systems (colon, kidneys, liver, lymph, skin, etc.) we run the risk of acquiring health issues and diseases. Think of a car. Think of how we need to give that car regular oil changes and to change the filters for that car to run at peak performance and live a long life. The same goes for our bodies!

Just Let Go

This same concept that I am explaining for our physical bodies also applies to other areas of life. If we don’t let go of resentment, sadness, anger, disappointment, hurt, and other negative emotions, it is very difficult for joy, happiness, inspiration, enthusiasm, and love to flow freely and manifest in our lives.

If we don’t take time to let go of being busy and make time to rest, meditate, pray, connect with nature and loved ones, we run the risk of burning out and missing out on the things that really matter. If we just keep collecting more and more things, whether it be books, clothes, furniture, gadgets, or whatever it is, we will one day find that we have no more room and that we have become a hoarder. We need to create habits for letting go. We need to learn to give away, sell, or trade our excess stuff. We need to take time to slow down and let go of the always-on-the-go behaviors. We need to face our buried emotions and be brave enough to navigate through them, honor them, cry if needed, and to let go so we can begin to embrace and embody feelings and experiences of a higher vibration.

Finding Balance

Ultimately we are meant to live in balance. It can be tricky, especially for those of us who were raised and conditioned by a culture that has been striding forward in a manner that is far, far from balanced. We need to learn to undo the mindset that urges us that more is better and that we need to fill up and gather as much as possible to be healthy and happy. True health and real happiness cannot be bought. Both are a process that involves the sacred art of simplification.

From my personal experience, I can say that the art of letting go – clearing the way, moving energy, cleansing, releasing, etc. – is really an amazing experience. Not only does it teach us about attachments and where we have been out of balance, but it also has this almost magical way of bringing goodness into our life. There is this old saying that goes something like “when one door closes, another opens.” Letting go is like that. As we get rid of something or we release it, we are now free for new opportunities, energies, manifestations, etc. to be present in our lives. It is not always easy to do this work, but we all know that sometimes dedication and perseverance through challenges brings the greatest rewards. If we are willing to make the effort we will experience results.

Clear the Clutter

Along with the physical cleansing program that I follow, I also have learned that I need to apply the same principles of cleaning out and letting go to other areas of my life as well. I am still learning to master this, but I have seen many positive benefits of taking time to let go of material items I no longer use or need, as well as letting go of negative emotions, holding on to the past, self-defeating thought patterns, toxic relationships, unhealthy situations, and anything that else that is taking away from a happy empowered life by hogging up all the space and energy with clutter or negativity.

Life is a dance of give and take. We learn from both gain and loss. It takes courage to journey into the realms of surrender and release, yet we learn through doing so that our greatest gains soon follow.

If you are interested in embarking on a physical cleanse I invite you to my Full Body Cleanse program that I developed and have been incorporating into my life twice a year for over a decade. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
